We’re taking a well earned break over the Christmas period, following our successful run of Black Tonic in Manchester throughout November.
If you weren’t one of the lucky 100 who managed to get a ticket this time, watch out for more performances in Birmingham over Easter in April 2009.

Black Tonic – the post-it note version
Katherine Maxwell-Cook and I spent last week mapping out the new version of the show (premiere 20th Nov 08 in Manchester).
This involved plenty of post-it notes, coloured pencils, and spider diagrams. It felt more like a cross between a game of chess, one of those impossible logic puzzles, and an episode of sesame street than theatre-making, but we got a lot done. Black Tonic Producer post is filled
We are excited to welcome Katie Keeler to The Other Way Works, as Producer for Black Tonic Autumn 08 – Spring 09. Given that I’m a Katie, and she’s a Katie, I think I might need to get a sign for the (virtual) office that reads: ‘You don’t have to be called Katie to work here, but it helps’.
Katie Keeler was chucked straight in at the deep end, attending a New Grantholders Day at the Wellcome Trust on her first day, but seems to be coping well!
Here’s a brief biog:
Katie Keeler is the freelance producer for Black Tonic by The Other Way Works. She also works part-time as a Creative Producer for Theatre Bristol – supporting artists across the city and developing initiatives to strengthen the sector (www.theatrebristol.net). Recent freelance work includes the management of the creative team and crew on Ron Hutchinson’s play Topless Mum in June & July
08 (Tricycle Theatre London, Belgrade Theatre Coventry, Oxford Playhouse, Tobacco Factory Theatre Bristol) and consultant on Bristol’s festival of physical and experimental theatre MayFest (May 2008). Katie has also been General Manger of Wales’ leading experimental theatre company, Volcano Theatre Company, where she produced six shows that toured nationally and internationally and Special Projects Officer in the Performing Arts Department at the British Council.
Wellcome Trust funding awarded for Black Tonic
We are pleased to confirm that the development and next performances of our current show Black Tonic will be funded by the Wellcome Trust. The first performances of this longer, fuller version of the show (1 hour) will be in Manchester from 20th November 2008.
We are also pleased to be working with Contact Theatre, Manchester to produce the show, and The Place Hotel, Manchester as sponsors of Black Tonic.
