Pilot - This Thursday
We’ll be performing our brand new performance as part of Pilot @ A.E. Harris THIS THURSDAY. Using live sound looping to create evocative soundscapes we’ll transport you to new worlds within worlds.
We started work on the show at 10am on Monday, and will perform it on Thursday night - guerilla site-responsive theatre!
Come and see Toni Midlane and Vimal Korpal perform, with Mark Day on sound & music, scenography input from Xristina Penna, research by Nix Wood, and directed by Katie Day.

One Week Works @A.E.Harris 2nd July
The wonderful PILOT is trying out a new home on 2nd July at Stan’s Cafe’s venue @A.E.Harris in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, and The Other Way Works will be joining them there.
We’ll be trying out our site-specific boot-camp idea ‘One Week Works’. Five artists will arrive on Monday, work together ‘responding to the space’, and perform what we’ve made on Thursday evening as part of the Pilot event. As you can see, that’s not even a full week - but we’re never afraid of a challenge!

More audience feedback
This ‘cloud’ of feedback is from people who saw Black Tonic in Birmingham in April 2009 - the cloud is again a representation of all the text from our ‘Guest Book’, which audience members are invited to write in after the performance.

Black Tonic - audience feedback cloud
This fantastic ‘word cloud’ programme was brought to my attention via Flatpack Festival’s blog.
So I thought I’d try it out on our own audience feedback.
See below the ‘cloud’ of feedback from people who saw Black Tonic in Manchester November 2008 - the cloud is a representation of all the text from our ‘Guest Book’, which audience members are invited to write in after the performance.

Thanks Mayfest
We had a great (and exhausting) time performing Black Tonic at Mayfest in Bristol over the May Bank Holiday weekend. We had sold out weeks before opening, and were really pleased that every single one of our audience members made it on the night, so not one place was wasted.
I’d like to say a big thanks to the performers who worked incredibly hard, also to our Bristol-based volunteers. And we’d like to thank everyone at Mayfest for their support, and the fantastic staff of the Mercure Holland House Hotel & Spa who accommodated the performance with such good humour.
Black Tonic at Mayfest Bristol
Black Tonic is off on its travels. After spending Easter in Birmingham at the Radisson SAS Hotel we’re off to Bristol to the Mercure Holland House Hotel & Spa, performing as part of Bristol’s Mayfest from 1-4 May 2009.
The people of Bristol have been so keen to get their hands on tickets that we have already SOLD OUT.
If you’re desperate to get in, it can be worth turning up on the day (15 mins before the shows start) and asking our Black Tonic Receptionist if there’s been any cancellations.
Tickets left for Easter weekend
Black Tonic opened last night to a full house, and lots of great comments from our audiences.
There are still tickets available for next weekend - Easter Weekend (9-12 April), so get in quick.
Click here for booking info. You can book online or by phone (no booking fee for either).
Black Tonic is sponsored by Radisson SAS Hotel Birmingham, funded by a Wellcome Trust Arts Award and the Sir Barry Jackson Trust.

Filming antics at the hotel
We spent this afternoon filming the (faked) CCTV footage that appears as part of Black Tonic.

As you can see, its a glamorous job. The photo above shows our film maker Chris Keenan setting up his tripod in the bath, and trying to avoid getting dripped on by the shower.
The team were good sports as ever, and our performer Magda (dressed in the Radisson’s housekeeping uniform) already had the head of housekeeping fooled and thinking she’s a new member of his staff.
Avon Called at Pilot on March 12th
We trialled a very new idea that might one day become a real show at Pilot on 12th March. The snippet we performed was entitled Avon Calling, and involved the performer Lou Platt taking on several personas: the Avon Lady, her mother & herself. As well as this, she built ‘the great wall of Avon’ - picture below. If you saw it and have any feedback for us drop us a line at info@theotherwayworks.co.uk , thanks.
