‘A Moment of Madness’ is back! And this time you can experience it from your sofa…
As the press gather for a big announcement on the new environmental bill, a politician’s future hangs in the balance.
Thrust into the heart of a spy thriller, you’ll navigate the political scandal of the decade. Watching over a multi-storey car park, you must use every mode of surveillance to hunt down facts and intercept evidence. As agents of the state you will expose a complex network of corruption that threatens to destroy the UK’s path to environmental progress.
A Moment of Madness fuses compelling drama with real-time gameplay to create a visceral new live experience.
In a brand new format for 2021, audiences will take part online in teams of 2-4, taking active roles as MI5 agents from the comfort of their own homes.
Tickets are now on sale, and the show opens next week as part of the fantastic Norfolk & Norwich Festival.
And then another chance to catch it in a couple of weeks time when we’ll be presenting the show in association with Oxford’s own Zoom Theatre Pioneers Creation Theatre.
(You can play from anywhere in the UK remember – its online!)
Book: Tuesday 25th May – Thursday 27th May 2021: 2pm, 4pm, 7pm & 9pm
Book: Wednesday 9th June – Saturday 12th June 2021: 2pm, 4pm, 7pm & 9pm
A Norfolk & Norwich Festival commission. Supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. Supported by Unity Theatre Trust & Birmingham Open Media. Originally co-produced with Birmingham Repertory Theatre and Flatpack Festival.

We were lucky enough to be invited to speak about how we work with technology in our theatre practice at the IETM Meeting in Amsterdam in April.
As long-time members of the IETM (an international network of performing arts organisations), we’ve attended many of their Plenary meetings in cities around Europe, but its always especially good to be contributing, as it helps with meeting people who share your interests from the 600+ attendees.

We’re really pleased to announce that Arts Council England have awarded us a grant to support the development of a prototype of our new project: Agent in a Box.
Currently at concept stage, Agent in a Box will be a new kind of spy-themed narrative game. Players provide back room support to an agent live in the field, on the brink of closing a tricky case. The paper fragments enclosed in the box together with a cheap mobile phone that accesses an automated interactive sms, voice call and message system deliver the hour-long narrative experience.
Artistic Director Katie Day will be collaborating with John Sear, an experienced game designer and software developer to create this new kind of narrative game.
We’re excited to be developing the project at BOM Lab, as an R&D Residency there over the summer.
The first port of call for us will be the Caravan Showcase in Brighton later this month, where we’ll be pitching Agent in a Box to a selection of top international promoters, alongside ‘England’s most exciting artists’.

The Other Way Works and Black Country Touring would like to invite you to the launch of our brand new Bandstand App.
Bandstands invite an audience. Lonely, empty stages standing ready at the centre of parks and squares. They seem resonant with what has happened there, and ripe with possibility. Our Bandstand Audio Theatre Experiences invite you to inhabit these spaces afresh creating a new performance event which places you at the centre of the action. Listen to the stories unfurl as you take a trip around the bandstand with these exclusive, intimate performances designed just for you.
The Bandstand App will be available to download from the Apple AppStore and Google Play store from early June 2013.
We are celebrating the launch of the App with events at the two Black Country Bandstands that feature in the App:
10th July 2013, 3-7pm – West Park Bandstand, Wolverhampton (come and find us in the cafe by the bandstand)
11th July 2013, 3-7pm – Lightwoods Park Bandstand, Bearwood, Sandwell (we will be on the grass next to the bandstand)
Drop in and join us in the afternoon or after work, enjoy some light refreshments, try out the audio experiences on the Bandstand App for yourself, and meet the artists behind the App.
If the summer is kind to us and the weather is nice, why not bring a rug and a picnic along and enjoy the park for a little longer.
The Bandstand App contains recorded audio theatre experiences written specially for each bandstand. The pieces for West Park can be experienced by a solo listener or a pair and last 20 minutes. The piece for Lightwoods Park is for a solo listener and lasts 40 minutes.
The Bandstand Audio Theatre Experiences were created by artists from The Other Way Works and influenced by local history research and conversations with park users and local groups. The final pieces are like short radio plays that tell a new fictional story that is inspired by each bandstand and park, to be experienced in the environment in which they’re set.
We would be grateful if you could RSVP to info@theotherwayworks.co.uk before 28th June to let us know that you are joining us. You are welcome to join us at West Park, Lightwoods Park, or both!
Please bring your iPhone or Android phone along if you have one (or can borrow one), and a pair of headphones. If you get a chance, download the Bandstand App in advance. We will have some MP3 players and headphones available to allow people without smartphones to listen to the audio experiences on the day. The events will be mostly outdoors, so dress appropriately for the weather.
You can find more information about the Bandstand App at

We look forward to seeing you on the 10th and/or 11th July,

Call for Research Participants from Pamela McQueen
Are you attending the launch performances of Bandstand? Are you willing to be involved in an audience research project? Do you have two hours to commit to a pre-show questionnaire and post show interview with a researcher?
I am conducting a PhD research project comparing and contrasting audience experiences of several city promenade performances. The study aims to explore your experience of attending this site specific event in Lightwoods and/or West Park. I am interested in how participation affects your understanding of the place and the play.
If you are willing to participate in the audience research of Bandstand, please indicate your interest in your RSVP to Black Country Touring/The Other Way Works. Alternatively you can email me directly at pamela.mcqueen@yorksj.ac.uk
Bandstand is produced by The Other Way Works, commissioned by Black Country Touring and
supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

I’ve just received my accreditation, and am now very happy to be an Accredited Action Learning Facilitator.
I experienced Action Learning as a ‘set’ member whilst I was undertaking my Cultural Leadership Programme Placement last year. This led me to apply for and be accepted onto the Action Learning and Leadership Facilitation Skills course run by the Action Learning Associates and the Cultural Leadership Programme early this year.
I’m really interested in using the skills I’ve gained to support my current facilitation roles, and also find opportunities to use them in a ‘pure’ Action Learning context. The Action Learning Associates Website has some useful info about what Action Learning is, if you’d like to find out more about it.
