I’m pleased to announce that Avon Calling was awarded a grant from the Arts Council to support the development of the show. The fruits of our labour can be seen at Warwick Arts Centre on 8th October 2009, commissioned by PILOT Nights. See you then, if not before.

We had a busy couple of weeks at the start of July, but more of that later. First, some news of a new project: ‘Avon Calling’.
Some of you may have seen some early ideas for Avon Calling at our performance at Pilot back in March 09. We’re pleased to announce that Avon Calling has been selected by Pilot to be part of their double-bill ‘It Came From Pilot’ at Warwick Arts Centre on 8th October 2009. It will remain a one-woman show, co-written and performed by Louise Platt. We’ll be rehearsing throughout August and September.

We’ll be performing our brand new performance as part of Pilot @ A.E. Harris THIS THURSDAY. Using live sound looping to create evocative soundscapes we’ll transport you to new worlds within worlds.
We started work on the show at 10am on Monday, and will perform it on Thursday night – guerilla site-responsive theatre!
Come and see Toni Midlane and Vimal Korpal perform, with Mark Day on sound & music, scenography input from Xristina Penna, research by Nix Wood, and directed by Katie Day.

The wonderful PILOT is trying out a new home on 2nd July at Stan’s Cafe’s venue @A.E.Harris in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, and The Other Way Works will be joining them there.
We’ll be trying out our site-specific boot-camp idea ‘One Week Works’. Five artists will arrive on Monday, work together ‘responding to the space’, and perform what we’ve made on Thursday evening as part of the Pilot event. As you can see, that’s not even a full week – but we’re never afraid of a challenge!

We had a great (and exhausting) time performing Black Tonic at Mayfest in Bristol over the May Bank Holiday weekend. We had sold out weeks before opening, and were really pleased that every single one of our audience members made it on the night, so not one place was wasted.
I’d like to say a big thanks to the performers who worked incredibly hard, also to our Bristol-based volunteers. And we’d like to thank everyone at Mayfest for their support, and the fantastic staff of the Mercure Holland House Hotel & Spa who accommodated the performance with such good humour.

Black Tonic is off on its travels. After spending Easter in Birmingham at the Radisson SAS Hotel we’re off to Bristol to the Mercure Holland House Hotel & Spa, performing as part of Bristol’s Mayfest from 1-4 May 2009.
The people of Bristol have been so keen to get their hands on tickets that we have already SOLD OUT.
If you’re desperate to get in, it can be worth turning up on the day (15 mins before the shows start) and asking our Black Tonic Receptionist if there’s been any cancellations.
