Katie Day – Co-creator and Director
Katie Day is the Artistic Director of The Other Way Works. In this role she initiates and directs new productions, delivers participatory activities, and leads the strategic development of the Company. In Spring 2011 she co-created and directed Avon Calling, a site-responsive performance for audience member’s own living rooms. She directed the company’s recent production Black Tonic which premiered in Manchester with Contact Theatre in November, and toured to Birmingham in April 2009, and Bristol’s Mayfest in May 2009. During the summer and autumn of 2008 she directed and co- devised Complimentary, commissioned for Warwick Arts Centre, and led a DIY5 artists’ professional development project on behalf of the Live Art Development Agency. Throughout 2010, Katie produced the Theatre Sandbox scheme for iShed, working with six regional venues to commission six new projects that explored the use of pervasive media in live performance.
Louise Platt Co-creator and Performer
Louise Platt both devises and performs in intimate theatre that aims to put the audience at the heart of the theatrical experience and is performed in unusual places. She is an associate artist and founding member of The Other Way Works, recently performing in the “evocative thriller” Black Tonic, in amongst other past shows with this company (Complimentary, I am waiting…, Treasured, Homing Instinct). In 2010 she worked closely with Katie Day in the R&D and work in progress performances of Avon Calling. Louise has recently performed in Treasured: A Secret Journey with The Jane Packman Company. Louise is also a Drama & Movement Therapist intrigued by the power of story, play and ritual, an interest that traverses both her theatrical and therapeutic worlds.
Alexander Kelly Creative Mentor
Alexander Kelly is Co-Artistic Director of the internationally acclaimed, Sheffield-based performance company Third Angel, with whom he devises, directs, writes, designs and performs. The company makes a range of work connecting the territories of theatre, live art, installation, film, video, photography and digital & online media, which tours throughout Britain and mainland Europe. Alex regularly mentors other artists and companies with Third Angel and through his role at Leeds Met. Current mentees are: Action Hero, Faye Draper (for her performance Tea Is An Evening Meal with Northern Stage), Chloe Bezer, Ellie Harrison and Trace Theatre.
Janet Vaughan Designer
Janet designs for site specific and touring theatre and creates artworks for unusual and digital spaces. She uses a variety of media to make her work, much of which is concerned with (usually temporary) responses to, or interventions in, public spaces – often at a point of change and/or regeneration. Janet has designed for performances in lots of interesting spaces including a geodesic dome tent, an underground car park, a still functioning cattle market, a decommissioned hospital, a medieval monastery, a seafront ballroom and a domestic front room.
